Lightscape is...

Lightscape; pronouced  ˈ/laɪt/skeɪp/' is a word which I invented. Yes, i really did!
Well lets say that I was certainly one of the first. When I first dreamt of finding a name for my website I searched on Google to see if there were any other sites with this name, I found none!
It is derived from the words "Landscape" & "Light" and implies "painting the landscape with light" hence the word "Lightscape". I am quite proud of this word because I started using it long before all the others jumped on the band wagon, now if you "Google" the word "Lightscape" you will find
all sorts of variations of the word but don't forget... I was the first :-)

Have a browse around the site and see what you think.

October 2016

This year I am lucky enough to be able to attend a Photography workshop in Patagonia lead by Ian Plant from 'Epic Destinations'.

We will be visiting El Calafate (Perito Moreno), Chalten (Fitzroy & Cerro Torre) and Torres del Paine in Chile.

The following is what I intend to take with me:

My main camera will be the Fuji X-T1.

This is a 16 megapixel X-Trans CMOS II sensor (with on-chip phase detection) camera, It uses an EXR Processor II, and has built-in Wi-Fi, and full HD video recording. It has an tilting electronic viewfinder and I have had it now for a while. I find it to be very good for landscape work.

fuji x-t1

I really only two lenses for the fuji.

  • XF18-135 mm, F3.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR, this is the all-round lens that I first bought with the camera.

  • I have since added the XF16 mm, F1.4 R WR. This is an excellent lens with great sharpness and a minimum working distance of 15cm providing great bokeh.
I am exceited to see how this performs in Patagonia.

It would be nice to have the XF 100-400 mm F4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR but I don't think that my budget is going to be able to cover that :-(

What is open source software?

Open-source software (OSS) is computer software that is available in source code form: the source code and certain other rights normally reserved forcopyright holders are provided under a software license that permits users to study, change, improve and at times also to distribute the software.
Open source software is very often developed in a public, collaborative manner. Open-source software is the most prominent example of open-sourcedevelopment and often compared to (technically defined) user-generated content or (legally defined) open content movements.[1]
A report by the Standish Group states that adoption of open-source software models has resulted in savings of about $60 billion per year to consumers

Who programmed this website?

This website was mainly programmed by "Rocksolid" a company which does themes for the contao cms which is the cms I use. I have done several sites from scratch as it were but this time I decided to use a ready made theme as a basis, and because I really liked the theme. I have done quite a lot of work on the CSS to adapt it to the way I wanted, so my experience with contao certainly helped here.

What equipment do I use?

If you are talking about photographic equipment then I mainly use a Fuji X-T1 and photograph in RAW, Colour. The decoding of the RAW file is done with Capture One Pro. I don't generally do any photoshop preferring to try and capture the image as I see it.

Do I receive a print or a RAW, un-edited file?

I don't give away my RAW files as this is for me the negative and proof of copyright. If you place an order with me then you will receive a print direct from the printers in the size you requested. The price depends upon the use. If you wish a limited print then of course the price would be higher and the RAW would not be used anymore.

Can I have a B & W version of the image?

Yes, of course. All the images here are photographed in colour and converted to B&W using Capture One Pro. Not all images are suitable for black and white and so I am happy to discuss this with you. Please contact me using the form to discuss your wich.

How do I receive my order?

All orders will be directed to the printer and you will receive the print directly from them. The service is excellent and I have no qualms about recommending it to you.
